Today

When I got home today, there were two things that I knew that I absolutely had to do: bake, and blog. Two things that I really enjoy, and two things that I ought to do more often. To top it off, the londoner's post today was making me really want to write something that some people would read.  She is so inspiring. So, here I am. With a short summary about the past few days, but the sort of thing that I wouldn't normally think worthy of the internet.

Do you see that happy little cardinal? I took this picture from inside, looking out through a glass door that opens onto a screened porch at a little robin in the garden.

We had the loveliest long weekend last weekend---not only had an accidental five-day weekend preceded it (due to a combination of snow-threat and exams), but it lasted for four days, and IT ACTUALLY SNOWED.

You see, when I was a lowly freshman four years ago, we had this mammoth snow. It was deep. It was dangerous. People lost electricity and were trapped in cars. And, it did this two or three times over the course of the winter.

Southerners don't know how to deal with snow, and the memory of three feet of it--at a time--is just too much for us to handle. So now, if it might snow, we get school off. Not bad, in my opinion, but I still love it when it snows. It takes weeks for me to get cabin fever, and I love the invigorating cold.

Speaking of which, the weather today was awful. It was a full 70*! Absolutely atrocious. It was dark, windy, cloudy, and very humid: all good, nice weather conditions, as far as I'm concerned, but the balmy temperatures are all wrong for January. Save it for April, please! I will enjoy it then. I want the weather to revert to last week's 20*. (and, joy!, it is supposed to get cold again by Friday.)

So, I'll just leave off with the picture of a cheerful little robin. I can never decide if I like robins or bluebirds better. Something about that incredibly round and fluffy little body with the russet breast appeals to me. They're adorable.

Well, the cookies are coming out of the oven, and I might or might not have an icky french quiz to study for!

Best,

  1. We do read! And, your recipies inspire me. I made a GF crust and made spinach pie for dinner this week because your pasties sounded so tempting. Then last night, GF popovers and salad. The popovers were hot and creamy and delicious with strawberry jam!
